A Message from Jonna
The past few years have offered so many opportunities that I don’t know where to begin to express my gratitude. I especially appreciate the opportunity to meet so many of the men and women in our Armed Forces – both past and present.
I am particularly grateful to the Officer’s Spouses’ Club at Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany, where I was included in a fundraising program for Fisher House. Fisher House is the military equivalent of the Ronald McDonald Houses, and allows family members to be close to their soldiers during hospital stays. As the first stop for our injured soldiers coming out of Iraq and Afghanistan, the Landsthul Fisher House plays an important part in the recovery efforts of our men and women in uniform. For more information on this organization please visit their website at: http://www.soldiersangelsfoundation.com/Fisher-House-Germany.html
I’ve always been a little crazy about the Doolittle Raiders – those men who flew with my grandfather on the first mission to bomb the homeland of Japan. However, during the past few years I’ve met many of our Veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the various battles in the Middle East.
I am so honored to have the opportunity to meet them and hear their stories. I wish each of them would take the time to write or record their role in our nation’s history. My grandfather’s life has been well documented, but I’m sure he would agree, that all the stories need to be saved and shared. My new mission is to get you guys going!
Now for the pilots! I’ve always believed that pilots are crazy – and this past year has confirmed my suspicions. Now I want my pilot’s license! I think pilots might have more fun than anyone else in the world! Thank you for letting me play with you and listen to your stories. I’m always looking forward to that next flight.
As someone who loves books, I am honored to be invited to libraries and literary groups. As a reader, I’ve loved meeting other writers. As a writer, I am thrilled to meet the readers...seems like the best of both worlds!
I would like to thank everyone who read Calculated Risk and took the time to email me. I would like to thank everyone who invited me to share my grandparent’s life with their groups. You all have made these past few years a dream come true. Thank you.
